Disability Sensitivity Training

Tailored Training for Organizations

Christopher Tester offers disability sensitivity training designed for organizations and professionals looking to build accessibility and inclusion into their practice. Drawing on his background as a Deaf educator, Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), and Speciality Certificate: Legal (SC:L) holder, his approach connects lived experience with practical guidance for workplaces and institutions.

Each session is shaped around the needs of the group requesting it, whether the goal is improving everyday communication access or building a broader understanding of Deaf culture and interpreting practice within an organization.

Grounded in Professional Experience

This training draws on more than 15 years of professional experience, including work as a manager and trainer at Sorenson Communications and as Special Projects Coordinator and Investigator at the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights. Christopher also serves as an interpreter instructor within CUNY's ASL-English Interpreting program, bringing an educator's perspective to every session.

Beyond corporate settings, Christopher Tester's disability sensitivity training extends to educational institutions, healthcare providers, legal professionals, and public-facing organizations seeking to deepen their understanding of Deaf culture and accessible communication. Sessions emphasize practical strategies for working effectively with Deaf and hard-of-hearing clients, colleagues, and community members, moving beyond theoretical awareness into actionable everyday practices. Participants explore topics such as appropriate interpreter usage, inclusive meeting and event design, effective visual communication techniques, and the legal and ethical considerations that shape accessibility obligations. By combining his lived experience as a Deaf professional with his extensive interpreting background, Christopher helps organizations identify gaps in their current practices and develop realistic, sustainable approaches to inclusion that benefit everyone they serve.
